Thorite with Racetec Motorsport Speed Hill Climb Team
Race Report – Harewood Open Hill Climb
Saturday 12th May 2012
Richard Vaughan and the Racetec Motorsport Team opened their account for the 2012 Sprint and Hill Climb season with a strong showing at the Harewood Open Speed Hill Climb, at Harewood near Leeds, on Saturday the 12th May.
Having solved early morning engine problems, Richard began a day long challenge to try and beat his long term adversary, Graham Smith (OMS 2000M) at the head of a record 1100cc single seater class entry of 18 drivers. Throughout the event Richard lay second in the class behind Graham. The challenge culminated in Richard’s charge at the final timed run of the day. A minor off track excursion put paid to any chance of a win for Richard and it also gave third place man Fergus Duncan the opportunity to steel the 2nd place off Richard by a mere 0.3 sec!
Richard wasn’t too disappointed with third place as the Class competition was at it’s strongest for many years. Also The OMS PR was running so well that Richard bettered his PB(Personal Best) time at the Hill by 0.75 seconds. The extra performance has come from improvements to the car which have been made possible by the continued financial support from the team’s loyal sponsors Thorite, SIP, FORCE, Redashe and Chicago Pneumatic(CP)
Further success for the Team came from Richard’s son Matt. The 21 year old student in Motorsport Management was making his debut in the family OMS as a part of his 21st Birthday Present from Mum and Dad. A delighted Matt finished the day 6th in class, beating many more experienced drivers, including the 2010 Northern Speed Champion! Watch out Dad you’re next!
The Racetec family team will be out again at the Harewood Jim Thompson Hill Climb on 3rd June.
